Custodian Data Centre in Maidstone has announced that they have attained the most widely recognised security standard accreditation in the world - ISO 27001:2005, Information Security Management System certification. As an emerging force in the data centre market known for its power availability & award winning efficiency, Custodians accreditation now demonstrates their commitment to providing robust information security measures that preserve the integrity of their customers’ sensitive information.
The ISO 27001 audit specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving a documented Information Security Management System, taking into account the organisation’s overall business risks. A neutral, independent agency conducts the audit and assesses the operation of a data centre, as well as all available applications, IT systems, processes and services provided by the organisation’s employees and contractors. A fully independent reassessment is carried out every year, and surveillance audits which review a section of the ISMS are performed every 6 months.
"We decided not use a consultancy to achieve ISO27001, because it can become a templated box ticking exercise” explains Leonard Kay, head of business development at Custodian. We preferred to rely upon our own people, which allowed us to involve everyone & to ensure that the ethos of ISO27001 became central to the operation of our organisation" We work very hard to excel in all areas of our business: award winning efficiency, power/network availability & genuine customer care. This accreditation is further proof that Custodian is providing a serious alternative in the colocation market.”

We appreciate the slight irony that a web site boasting about energy efficiency has a report on car racing as it's first entry. But without exception we are all petrol heads so here goes. This weekend (3rd/4th July) saw our Rowland Kinch tearing around Brands Hatch in the Historic Formula 1 Championship. Rowland drives a 1982 Arrows A4 (originally driven by Mauro Baldi) in the championship which contains some of the most famous cars of the late 70's & early 80's.
Having won at Brands & leading the championship last year, a series of mechanical faults saw him heading to the Kent circuit without finishing a race so far this season. A lack of rear grip saw him oversteer his way to 3rd place in qualifying, lack of rear downforce seemed to be the problem.
The rear wing was adjusted for the Sunday morning warm up, & then further for the race in an effort to balance the car. The Arrows runs a DFV Cosworth engine producing over 520 Bhp & weighs in at 500kg, so balance is an important part of getting results. In the race itself, Rowland held on to third place throughout, pulling comfortably away from those behind but unable to make an impact on the leading two.
The next round is at Nogaro Paul Armagnac in France on 4th & 5th September.
